If people do not prioritize their sobriety, then days to months down the road they may get so off course that they do not even know how to get clean again. In other words, when an addict decides to seek sobriety, she must understand the importance of that decision, that she has made a lifelong commitment to avoid drugs. Recovery is not about just saying no to drugs, because it is a mental change that sends people away from drugs at all times.

It is difficult to enforce boundaries in recovery, to stay healthy and to avoid friends and family members who abuse drugs, but they are all necessary if someone wishes to support his recovery. For instance, if someone has a positive mindset, then he can learn from his mistakes rather than getting stuck in them. People who thrive in recovery tend to see hurdles and unexpected events as challenges rather than roadblocks. The good news is that healthy choices become easier to make the more a recovering addict makes them. When a recovering addict can take a negative experience and learn from it, then he is in the right mindset and has higher chances of recovery than people who concentrate on all the problems they have experienced along their journeys.
